Borne Out of Necessity
Years ago, when my dental practice was failing, I was forced to examine my situation in a very different way. I was forced to look at what I could change immediately in order to turn things around.
I settled on five key insights that formed the basis for the Ultimate Hygiene Program. From there, I employed First Principles Thinking approach to solve a bigger problem.
First Principles Thinking
First Principles Thinking is a problem solving model that involves breaking down a problem or situation into its core pieces and then putting them back together in a more effective way. Deconstruction and Reconstruction. It requires a person to dig deeper and deeper until they are left with only the foundational truths of a situation.
In dentistry, every problem does not need to be broken down to an atomic level; you just need to go one or two levels deeper than most people. Different solutions present themselves at these deeper levels. UPB applies First Principles Thinking to each component of a dental practice.
Eliminate Biases, Break Boundaries
In addition to applying First Principles Thinking, I found that my best solutions came out of eliminating bias and my preconceived notions of how things should be. I learned to be wary of ideas inherited from others. Old ways and previous forms are often accepted without question and, once accepted, they set a boundary around you and what you believe you can do in your practice.
Breaking things down to the basics, then reconstructing in a way that optimized the process, created incredible consistency and effectiveness to each component of my business. As a result, we grew exponentially.
UPB Dental Academy teaches the systems and processes that came out of that First Principles journey. What makes us unique is our simplicity. We take what seems overwhelming and complicated, simple and easy to implement. One step at a time.
